The TFSI® engine of the new Audi A3 Sportback

With FSI® technology, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber and sprayed in a very fine spray. In this way, fuel, which is measured with absolute precision, can be used in the same millisecond as the engine requires, which contributes to better fuel use and reduced fuel consumption.
The Audi A3 Sportback uses TFSI® technology. This technology combines the advantages of FSI® technology (efficiency and dynamism) with turbocharging, which guarantees even greater power.

The 1.8 TFSI 180 PS (132 kW) engine of the A3 Sportback works with the Audi valvelift system and the intelligent thermal management system. By exchanging between two contours of exhaust cams, a higher torque is generated at lower engine speeds, and the effect can be perceived directly. The engine reacts faster and accelerates the A3 Sportback from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds with the S tronic®. The Audi valvelift system also helps reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In addition to direct fuel injection, the 1.8 TFSI 180 hp (132 kW) engine uses indirect injection, which makes the partial load margin even more efficient.

The turbochargers of both engines have an electric discharge valve that regulates the load pressure with special speed and precision. In addition, the exhaust manifold has been integrated into the water cooled cylinder head, shortening the engine's warm-up period and reducing the exhaust gas temperature. All these measures reduce the consumption, especially when the vehicle circulates with a style of sport driving. Naturally, both engines comply with EU5 emissions regulations.
